Meet Benita Estes
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my campaign website.
My name is Benita Estes, and I’m running for Foothills County Council because I believe we need leadership that truly listens, respects the people who live here, and makes decisions that protect our rural way of life.
I’ve lived in Foothills County for many years, and like many of you, I chose this community because of its peace, beauty, and sense of connection. I never set out to get involved in politics, but when the proposed biodigester project near High River threatened our environment, our health, and our homes, I knew I had to act.
What started as a few concerned conversations quickly grew into a movement. I helped organize public meetings, brought neighbours together, and collected over 1,000 petition signatures. We challenged a project that was being pushed forward without proper consultation, without transparency, and in a location that made no sense for residents or the land.
That experience opened my eyes to a bigger issue, decisions are being made without real community input. It's time for that to change.
Why I'm Running
I'm not a career politician. I'm a resident, a landowner, and someone who understands the daily realities of rural life. I'm running because:
I care about protecting our land
We need responsible development that respects our zoning, our environment, and our property values.
I believe in transparency
Residents deserve to know what’s happening before deals are made, not after.
I will stand up for public health and safety
Environmental risks, odours, emissions, and long-term impacts matter, and I will fight to ensure they’re never ignored.
I support fiscal responsibility
Your tax dollars should be spent wisely and with full accountability.
A Council That Works for You
If elected, I promise to bring your voice to the table. I will be present, available, and responsive. I will ask the hard questions. And I will always put the needs of our community before outside interests or pressure from developers.
